ABOUT
Alex began creating her complex and colourful designs in 2017. Her talent for drawing and design was an unexpected discovery, made while she was struggling with mental health problems and the trauma of domestic abuse. Alex was looking for calm amid the chaos and distress, and she found that working on these designs provided her with a form of personal therapy.
Alex – along with her mum and chief supporter Sarah – has been helped on the journey to recovery by two charities: Reducing the Risk is dedicated to the safety of adults and children at risk of domestic abuse, and to empowering the professionals and volunteers who support them. It provides the Independent Domestic Violence Advisor team and other services for Oxfordshire. Alex and her mum don’t know what would have happened to Alex without the extraordinary support of this organisation.
The Salvation Army describes its work in this way: ‘The Salvation Army puts its beliefs into practice through a programme of practical action, serving our communities, supporting those in need and fighting for social justice. We run over 100 social services centres across the UK to help homeless people, older people, families and people with drug and alcohol addictions.’
Sarah and Alex want to support these remarkable charities by means of Alex’s unique and joyful artwork. She would not have been where she is today, and her designs would not have been created, without the help of Reducing the Risk and The Salvation Army.
